Dedicated to the memory of Steven Lampert

This site is a tribute to Steven Lampert. He is much loved and will always be remembered.

‘Steve died peacefully at home with his family around him on Monday 12th October.  He was so courageous in his battle against cancer and maintained a positive and brave attitude over more than three years of illness and treatments.

At a personal level, Steve was a devoted husband to Suzanne and father to his two little girls, Olivia and Georgia. He was so loving, caring and patient. He had so much time and love to give to his daughters and was very much involved in everything they did. The girls fondly remember his great cooking, the trips to the beach and to parks, flying the kite, watching Dr Who and his wonderful hugs. He was loved by all in the family and he was also a very good friend to many.

Steve followed his passion and carved out a very successful career in tennis coaching and coach education - as a coach, a tutor and mentor, a regional development officer and as part of the LTA Apprenticeship programme. He was very well respected by colleagues as well as the many people he coached/tutored throughout his career.

He will be very much missed, but his positive attitude, the wonderful memories and his peaceful ending will all provide great comfort.’

Thoughts

You will be in my thoughts forever, I have known you for over 50 years and this has shaped my outlook and experiences of life and these examples are typical of the sensitive and hardworking person that Steve was. He showed us what it is to be able to follow a dream, in this case to strive against all odds to achieve the goal of becoming a Professional Tennis Coach and to have the belief and dedication to work through the hierarchy of training and exams to reach that level. In an era when the Professional Tennis Coach was the reserve of the professional player Steve broke through that mould by sheer guts and determination and with the support of his family and friends. He never shrank from helping others achieve their goals often undertaking sponsorship by trekking in Peru or along the Great Wall of China of holding an all night tennis marathon for Children in need. He made many friends along the way and his definition of a good party was being able to sleep in a corner whilst others danced around him. You all know how proud he was to become a father and a favourite uncle. His determination, fortitude and good humour was never more tested than over the past 3 years with cancer but you would never know anything of his suffering of anguish...he would not let his illness get in the way of life. We have much to be inspired by and are better persons for knowing and loving Steve. Jenny Lampert

Steve oversaw my first ever full professional coaching certificate. I was impressed by his ability to make things seem and feel simple. This was , I sensed, due to his care for passing on practical knowledge with humour and insight. My gratitude and thoughts towards Steve's family.

I really enjoyed tutoring on Tennis Scotland courses with Steve - he was fun, animated and always wanted to help everyone to learn. His ideas and knowledge helped me and motivated me to become better as a tutor and coach as he did for so many others in the Coaching world. I will really miss working with him
